Types of cabinet hinges

There’s a wide variety of cabinet hinges which can be used in the kitchen. Which type is suitable for your needs?

Self-closing hinges

This variety of hinges is able to close doors on their own using their own weight. This is a convenient feature if you frequently have your hands full. There are a couple of sub-categories here, namely the spring-loaded and hydraulic hinges. Spring-loaded hinges rely on the recoil power of integrated springs to return to position, while hydraulic hinges use hydraulic pressure. The latter is useful for heavy doors that require an extra boost to close.

Overlay hinges

This variety is used on offset doors which are positioned outside the cabinet frame. A secondary variety is the half overlay version, which is used on cabinets using two door flaps which meet in the middle.

Inset hinges

This category of hinges has a wide and narrow flap. The wide flap is screwed to the inside of cabinets as a base while the narrow flap is affixed to the door.

We stock numerous other hinge varieties in our inventory, and they all have unique designs and finishes. Whether you’re looking for functionality or pizzazz, we’ve got you covered!
