How do I install Drawer Pulls on my Cabinets?

Drawer pull installation requires some "engineering", but it's not too hard to figure out. As pulls have two mounting screws, the distance between these must be taken into consideration. If you are switching out old drawer pulls for new ones, in most cases you need to select new pulls that have the same "hole centers" between the mounting posts. The mounting hole centers are measured from the center of one hole to the center of the other hole. Some standard hole center sizes are 3 in., 3-1/2 in., 4 in. and so on (inch system). However, in recent years, more hardware has been made on international standards which are based on increments of 32mm. For instance, examples of these sizes are 64mm, 96mm, and 128mm. This system was born of the equipment that drills holes in woodworking factories. It is standardized on the 32mm system and most of the world outside of the U.S. uses this system. You will find many of these international sizes on our website because we sell a lot of hardware with a European flavor. But in the U.S. market, there are literally millions of cabinet doors and drawers that are drilled on the inch system so we try to offer many items in these sizes as well. If you are selecting hardware for new cabinets, it is easy because you simply need to drill the holes to fit the hardware you have chosen. Any cabinet maker can drill mounting holes at any distance.

One kind of drawer pull deserves special mention - the architectural "bar pull" hardware. Our series of #3489 bar pulls offers our customers an extensive selection of sizes and finishes. These pulls create a look of simple sophistication in any kitchen. The longer lengths are generally used in a vertical position on doors and the short to medium lengths are normally used on drawers. The sheer size of these pulls makes a dramatic visual impact. These pulls are also great for office furniture and modern household furniture. If you are interested in using bar pulls, but you are not sure what length of bar pull to select, we recommend the “2/3” solution… measure the overall length of your door or drawer, and chose a bar pull length that is approximately two-thirds of that length. Stated more simply, you want the bar pulls to cover at least two-thirds of the drawer or door length. This will give you a harmonious balance between the hardware and the cabinets.
